Margins

Generally we care about the right size of the canvas prints and about the necessary extrapolation of the data file.

Very important: the size mentioned in the price table, e.g. 40 x 60 cm, is always the final size of the stretcher!

The final size of the picture ready to print is influenced by the margin you wish (see pictures below). Usually we do not charge it if you want a printed margin, but some designs cost additional charge. If you send your data ready to print, we do not charge these extra costs.

White margin: If you want to do the measurement for your canvas picture yourself, it will be necessary to add 5 mm at the height and the length. Doing this, you will not see any white frame where the stretcher and the picture end standing directly in front of the picture. This means you have to take 40.5 x 60.5 cm instead of 40 x 60 cm. 

Depth of the stretcher = visible lateral frame = 18 mm

Furthermore, we can use a stretcher depth = 30 mm or we can use a stretcher with 40 mm.

Please note that our pictures show prints without stretchers from above. Parts of the picture will be shown on the lateral margin of the stretcher. The canvas is stapled to the stretcher behind it. Here, we use the sizes for the standard stretcher of 18 mm.

Margin 1 - white = colour of the canvas

You have to add 5 mm at all sides and 3 cm margin for the stretcher. We can deliver the following variations: soft borders or decentralised margin.

This margin is always possible.

Margin 2 - mirrored and copied

There will be no light margin normally, we just put it to give you a better overview!

Margin 2 can be used with thick stretchers, too, because we copy as much as necessary without loosing anything of the picture itself. This margin is always possible.

Margin 3 - zoom

Margin 4 - cleared up, blurred, enlarged

Blurring and clearing up are user-defined. This margin is always possible.

Margin 5 - picture circular

We cleared the margin up only to show  the effect, so usually you will not have a clear visible border as long as you do not want to have it.

As you clearly see, there is a bigger loss at the long sides than at the short sides. It can help to use a different and longer stretcher.

Be careful not to put important details of the picture onto the margin or the back of your print. Usually we do not recommend Frame 5 with small pictures because of the big loss.

Please be careful: We need at least 72 dpi before extrapolating!
